Arlington is a city in Tarrant County, located approximately 12 miles east of downtown Fort Worth and 20 miles west of downtown Dallas. Arlington borders Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, and Fort Worth, and surrounds the smaller communities of Dalworthington Gardens and Pantego. Arlington is the fiftieth most populous city in the United States, the seventh most populous city in the state of Texas.

Arlington’s residents live in one of four independent school districts: Arlington ISD, Mansfield ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Kennedale ISD. Arlington is home to The University of Texas at Arlington, the Southeast Campus of Tarrant County College, and Arlington Baptist College. The University of Phoenix and Texas Tech University also has a presence in Arlington near I-20.

Arlington is home to the University of Texas at Arlington, a doctoral-granting institution, and a General Motors assembly plant. Additionally, Arlington hosts the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, the headquarters for American Mensa, and the theme parks Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor. Arlington is the headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV.
